Flooded vs AGM: which battery is better for my vehicle?

It depends on what your vehicle requires and how you drive.

Choose a flooded (wet-cell) battery if:

Your vehicle was designed for a standard battery and you want a proven, cost-effective option.
Your electrical demand is typical (no start-stop, no heavy accessory load).

What happens if I install the wrong battery size or terminal orientation?

Installing the wrong battery can cause problems fast—some annoying, some expensive.

Common issues with the wrong battery size (group size):

It may not fit the tray or hold-down properly, leaving the battery loose (vibration can damage the case and connections).
Cables may be stretched or won’t reach, leading to poor connections or no-starts.

Terminal orientation / polarity problems:

If the terminals are on the wrong side, your cables may not reach—or you may be tempted to force an unsafe connection.
Accidentally connecting reverse polarity can damage vehicle electronics and wiring.

Best practice: Match group size, terminal layout, and required CCA—then exceed CCA if you want extra cold-weather reliability.

How do I clean battery terminal corrosion safely?

Battery terminal corrosion can cause weak starts and charging issues, and it’s usually safe to clean if you do it properly.

What you’ll need

Safety glasses + gloves
Baking soda + warm water (neutralizes acid residue)
Wire brush or battery terminal brush

Step-by-step

Turn the vehicle off. Remove keys.
Disconnect the negative (-) terminal first, then positive (+).
Mix baking soda + warm water and apply to the corrosion (it will fizz as it neutralizes).
Scrub terminals and clamps with a brush until clean.
Rinse with a small amount of water and dry.
Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (-).

Important safety notes
Don’t let metal tools bridge between terminals (short circuit risk).
If the battery case is cracked, leaking, or swollen, don’t clean it—replace it.
